Waiting All Day is the first new single to be unleashed from UK cross cultural groovers - Grupo X's brand new album As Hills Go By. Marking a change in direction for the band, inspired by Black American Music, Waiting All Day is a sublime retro tinged slice of heartfelt soul, beautifully sung by Lisa Millett. The package also features a hammond slaying, Northern Soul style remix from their old pal Johnny Machin. Talented West Yorkshire trombonist, Jonathan Enright, has performed and recorded with many artists including Pucho and his Latin Soul Brothers, Dennis Brown, Max Romeo, Gregory Isaacs, Bootsy Collins, Lo-Fidelity All Stars, Tony Christie, Badly Drawn Boy and Elbow. In 1997 he formed as a Latin/ soul/ jazz ensemble Grupo X. This talented band comprise of outstanding singer/songwriter Lisa Millett on vocals, Simon Edwards - bass (Fairground Attraction), Jim Le Messurier - drums (Orquesta La Clave/ Tito Allen), Pete Eckford - percussion (Chaz Jankel/ Leroy Hutson), Olly Drew - guitar (Freeloader), Leon Stenning - guitar (Martha and the Vandellas/Reel People), Finn Peters - flute, saxes (Frederick Rzewski /DJ Spinna) and band leader Jonathan Enright - trombone, keyboards. Their 2001 debut album on Jonny's own label Loft Recordings, X-Posure, was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Grupo X's music gained global radio play and support from taste-making DJs including Gilles Peterson, Snowboy, Spinna, Bobbito and Louie Vega. The band has also had success in Japan with their Brand New Love EP, featuring the outstanding soulful sista, Lisa Millett, on vocals. Further acclaimed albums Food For Your Latin Soul and Grupo X Remixed featured the hit Sunshine, X-Perience and Whatever You Dream. In 2007, Grupo X's track Jonny's Bugalu featured on the DSW Shoes TV commercial across the USA. Grupo X have performed throughout the UK and Europe forging a reputation for crowd-pleasing grooves, with soulful vocals and heavy horns. Among their fans is Quentin Tarantino who had them booked to play at the after-party to the London premiere of Kill Bill 2. Grupo X have collaborated with many internationally-renowned artists over the years, including "Mr Bongo" Jack Costanzo at 2003 North Sea Jazz Festival. They have played UK shows with Ubiquity Records' Dave Pike, Bobby Matos and Johnny Blas, as well as performances with Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez, NY salsero Jimmy Sabater (Fania Records) and trombonist Jimmy Bosch. In 2009 Grupo X toured the UK with "The King of Latin Soul", Joe Bataan and Stones Throw Records' James Pants, followed by an appearance at the 2010 Vintage Festival with Joe Bataan. Born in Leicester, Johnny Machin began his musical career aged ten inspired by an Adam And The Ants performance on Top Of The Pops. He began drumming for a local brass band. Following a move to London to study music, he worked as a freelance percussionist and drummer before joining the Lo-Fidelity Allstars as a composer, lyricist and musician. For the past ten years Johnny has continued to compose and perform with artists including Barry Adamson, Rory More, Tom Jones, Nick Cave and C W Stoneking.
